The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is a United States government agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services that is responsible for the inspection and regulation of food, dietary supplements, drugs (human and animal), cosmetics, medical devices, and biopharmaceutical and blood products in the United States. In addition, it has enforcement powers over certain other laws, notably the Public Health Service Act Section 361. In the 2008 tax year, this government agency operated with an annual budget of $2.1 billion.
