Demonology is the study of demons or belief in demons. This field is concerned with the study of the structure, hierarchy and function of demons in various religious and cultural traditions. Although it is often associated with demonic beings in the Christian tradition, demonology can be part of any culture or religion that believes in the existence of evil spirits or supernatural beings.
In our seminar we will attempt to explore how different cultures and religious traditions have understood and interpreted demonic beings. We will address questions such as: what is the origin of demons, what is their meaning and role in different religious traditions, and how do demons affect human life?
